lyrics

My dear mother's sister, Miss Millicent Brown
owns a small boarding house by the sea.
It's replete with the features one's come to expect
with a seaward facade that commands one's respect.
It has plenty of charm but it's lacking in guests
since a demon moved in upstairs.

It was late Sunday evening the demon arrived
in a flash of hellfire and brimstone.
Well my aunt's never been one for making a scene
so politely she showed him to his room.

He offered her riches in return for her soul;
She offered him tea with a cucumber roll.
Despite our concern she's doing quite well
since the demon moved in upstairs.

The next morning at breakfast the demon
declared that he cared not one fig
if they thought him an ungodly heathen
as he turned half the guests in to miniature pigs.

He greets all he meets with a baleful glance
and an unholy stench which withers the plants.
He speaks in a way that one shouldn't to aunts,
he's the demon who lives upstairs.

He gathers cadavers of foxes and badgers
and leaves them as gifts for my aunt.
He's full of diseases,
he does as he pleases,
and when asked to stop says he shan't.

Things came to a head after dinner
when some guests played the demon at Whist.
Dear Mrs Green was the winner,
oh God rest her soul,
she'll be terribly missed.

Though he drives her insane my aunt's let him remain
now she's grown used to his little scares.
He may be a demon,
but now he's her demon,
her demon who lives upstairs.
Yes her demon who lives upstairs.
